These are my personal Picture Control Presets to create renderings of images that I can export to TIFF in Capture NX-D to the photo editor of my choice.
You can import them directly into your Nikon camera if it has Picture Control or into your Capture NX-D via the Picture Control Utility.
The Picture Control Presets are enhanced by applying registered adjustments in Capture NX-D.
Designed to bring out warm tones from fur and flesh from a neutral background, this is an adjustment of the Neutral setting in Picture Control. Having soft tones gives you a lot of space to work with later.
If we were looking at film emulation this would be very familiar to a Fuji Superia Reala (which quit being manufactured in 2013).
Like Superia Reala was intended, I use this preset for portraits and product photography because it gives fine and natural colors which will hold up when you create contrast in post-production.
For the best results, try not to use noise reduction features on the Nikon if you don’t have to. (Shooting Menu > High ISO NR > OFF).
France 1968 is designed to work with Soft Warms to create contrast for a more dramatic looking image. I use it for both outdoor and product photography shooting to mitigate green. (After all, the human eye sees more greens than any other color).
When the subject is shot against greenery you can see the dramatic effect it can cast the subject in.
